Strategy can help you win, but it doesn't always guarantee that you'll enjoy the game.  That's where our baccarat tips come in.  Learning baccarat is much easier when you come to the game prepared.  Here, Gambling City gives you thoughtful baccarat advice on scenarios that fall outside the realm of strategy (a surprising number of them do).

If you want to know anything and everything about the game, read our baccarat tips.

Baccarat Tip—Know Your Baccarat Games

When you sit down at a baccarat table, did you know that you could be sitting down to any one of at least four different variations of the game?

While Chemin de Fer and Baccarat Banque are the most popular baccarat games in Europe, Asia favors Punto Banco, and America has recently revamped many of its casino floors with new Mini-Baccarat tables. No single strategy covers the differences in all three games, which is a baccarat tip in itself.

Though all of these variations are still baccarat at heart, there are slight differences between each. Learning baccarat rules for all three variations can help international players avoid embarrassing mistakes during both online and live baccarat games.

  • Chemin de Fer
French for “railroad”, Chemin de Fer is the oldest baccarat variation. The game earned its unique name because of the way it is dealt. Every time the acting banker loses a hand, he must pass the deck (or decks) to the next player. In this way, the shoe travels around the table—similar to a railroad. This is the primary difference between Chemin de Fer and other baccarat variations.
  •

  • Baccarat Banque
In Banque games, the player is dealt two hands while the banker receives only one. Players have the option of betting on either of the player hands, but not on the banker hand. A casino employee deals all hands.
  •

  • Punto Banco
Punto Banco is often referred to as “American Baccarat,” and naturally that is where this variation is most popular. Here, a croupier deals all the cards (as with Banque), but players maintain the option of betting on either the banker or player hands (as with Chemin de Fer).
  •

  • Mini-baccarat
This variation is pervasive in American casinos where space is money. As its name suggests, it's really just a downsized version of regular Punto Banco, played at smaller, blackjack-style tables.

Baccarat Tip-Play Responsibly

Really this is baccarat advice that should be applied to every game you play. The best way to play responsibly is to create a plan that helps you to manage your time and money and avoid temptation before it arises. Learning baccarat is the first step, but if you want to continue to enjoy the game long-term then you need to set some limits. Take our baccarat advice on protecting your bankroll, and you're sure to get more for your money. Playing responsibly incorporates several different baccarat tips like money management, setting limits, and knowing when to stand.

  • Money Management
Before you begin a game, separate your playing money from your non-playing money. You should never play with money you need for something else.

If your playing budget is low, search for deposit bonuses that make the most of your bankroll. And when you're especially cash-strapped, you can still get a baccarat fix by playing the free games offered at most casinos. Once you've built up a larger bankroll, establish a separate bank account for your casino funds and maintain a strict policy of playing only with that cash.

  • Set Limits
First, establish your budget. Next, decide on how long you would like to play. Now, compare the two to determine your maximum expenditures per session/per hour/per day, etc. Once the first of those limits is met, it's time for you to leave the table. Return winnings to your player account for use in future games.

  • Know When to Stand
While the easiest way to tear yourself away from the game is to stick to the limits you've previously set, sometimes you should stand before you get there. While tilt is a condition most often associated with poker, it can affect players of virtually any casino game. If you've wagered more than you should have, or you just can't concentrate on your strategy, then you're better off leaving the game. You can always return to the table later.
