Roulette Tips

Spin the wheel.

Watch the ball.

Can you guess

Where it will fall?

Roulette has recently become of the most popular casino games online.  Playing roulette doesn't require knowledge of advanced mathematics or intense roulette strategies.  Instead, it is a fun, social game that makes for a festive occasion.

Before you join the excitement and start placing your bets, be sure to get all the insider roulette secrets you need to optimize your bankroll and game enjoyment.  The Gambling City Guide to Roulette Secrets & Insider Tricks is here to help!

‘How to Win Roulette Tricks’ #1—Place Your Bets

For what at first appears to be a simple game, roulette offers a surprising number of betting options.  Of course, the easiest of these is selecting a number between one and thirty-six.  This is known as a "straight bet".

You can bet on as many numbers as you like on any spin.  For example, if you have three children, ages thirteen, ten and six, you can bet on all of those numbers in equal or unequal amounts.  Unlike craps, each straight bet has the same odds (one is equally likely as thirty-six) and has the same roulette payout of thirty-five to one on a successful spin.

If you're less sure about your "lucky" numbers and would like to employ more sound roulette strategies, you have several options.

One of the best online roulette strategies is placing a set of bets known as "outside" bets; these bets are placed "outside" the grid of thirty-six numbers.  These options include "red or black", "odd or even", "high or low", and "first twelve", "second twelve" and "third twelve."  These bets are clearly marked on the playing surface.  The table below shows how to win these bets and what roulette payout you receive when you win.

If you like playing roulette in combinations of numbers, there are also "inside" bets.  These bets are placed "inside" the grid, often at the edges or intersections of the grid squares.  These bets also have longer odds and a better roulette payout.  The table below shows the names of these bets, where to place them on the grid, how to win and what payout you receive.

‘How to Win Roulette Tricks’ #2— US vs. EU

A very subtle yet important difference exists between roulette in US-based casinos and those in European establishments.  In Europe, most roulette wheels have only one green number pocket, zero (0).  In the US, most tables have both a zero and a double-zero (00) pocket.  While this doesn't change the payout structures outlined above, it means that US wheels carry a higher house advantage.  In fact, this added pocket almost doubles the house take, increasing it from 2.7% to 5.3%.

‘How to Win Roulette Tricks’ #3—“Dues” and Don’ts

Some roulette players like to keep a scorecard to record the results of previous spins.  Others read the lighted board above the wheel that displays how it has performed in recent plays.

Many players track these numbers in search of hidden roulette secrets and trends with the keen eye of a stock analyst, waiting for a particular pattern to emerge from the seeming randomness.

At GamblingCity.net, we have three words of advice for such players: Stop wasting time.
As they say in the investment business, "past returns are no indication of future performance".  A true, fair roulette wheel has no "memory" of previous spins.

‘How to Win Roulette Tricks’ #4—“System” Crash

"I can't lose at roulette!  I've got a roulette system!  It's a foolproof, guaranteed winner!  I'll let you in on it for the extremely low price of --"

Many so-called “roulette tips” come in the form of the “roulette system”.  If this sales pitch sounds too good to be true, that's because it is.  No roulette system can guarantee winnings in a random game where the odds never change, the game never favors the player and the house always grinds out its percentage.

‘How to Win Roulette Tricks’ #5—Shoe Computers and Laser Cell Phones

Of course, that's not to say that some players haven't used other methods to tip the odds in their favor while playing roulette.

In the early 1970s, a group of players with backgrounds in physics and computers came up with a roulette system that measured the speed of the ball and the wheel using computers in their shoes. They entered their calculations by typing with their toes and used the results to predict where the ball would land before the wheel stopped spinning.

As recently as 2004, a group of men playing roulette at a London casino used a laser scanner hidden in a cell phone to find out which area of a wheel a ball would land.  The players were discovered and the gambling industry wizened to the use of cell phones as card counting devices.

‘How to Win Roulette Tricks’ #6—Take A Spin!

One of the great features of roulette is that, like craps, you can make several bets on one spin.  As always, Gambling City advises you to play responsibly, stay within your bankroll and enjoy your time at the tables.

And there you have it…Gambling City’s best online roulette tips from online roulette experts!
